The Volcano Mount Rainier
Mount Rainier is an impressive, active stratovolcano in Washington State and, at 4,392 meters (14,411 feet), the highest peak in the Cascade Range. This volcano is part of the “Ring of Fire,” a region around the Pacific Ocean known for significant volcanic activity. Mount Rainier is covered by 25 major glaciers, including the Emmons and Nisqually glaciers, making it one of the most glacier-rich volcanoes in the United States.
Although the volcano is currently considered dormant, the risk of future eruptions remains. In the event of an eruption, glaciers could melt, triggering dangerous mudflows (lahars). These lahars pose a potential risk to nearby valleys and towns. For this reason, Mount Rainier is continuously monitored by volcanologists to detect changes in activity early.
